Clēnera’s Three Peaks Power Solar Project Recognized as Best Energy Project of 2017

Boise, Idaho - December 10, 2016 - Clēnera’s 108 MW Three Peaks Power solar project has officially entered operations. Spanning across 739 acres of land in Cedar City, Utah, this 324,000 module installation has the ability to provide reliable, affordable, and clean energy to 12,000 homes in the state.

Being located near Three Peaks Recreation Area brought hillsides and volcanic soils, both of which introduced challenges to the project. Although the area is known for its abundant sunshine, the rock-covered ground made excavation difficult.

Blymyer Engineers, the company that supplied engineering expertise to Clēnera’s photovoltaic power station, commented on these challenges saying, “Three Peaks is a beautiful area, with abundant sunshine. In many ways, it’s an ideal location for a utility-scale solar facility. However, the hard, rocky soil did present some design and construction challenges. Collaboration across the design and construction team helped us overcome hurdles while delivering the project on time and on budget.”

One tool that ensured this project was completed on time was the Sunscreen mobile app. This app, created by Swinerton Renewable Energy, allowed for real-time tracking of the progress happening at the site, and provided all stakeholders with 24/7 access to important metrics.

This innovative product was the first of its kind and gave the solar project a technological boost. Through these critical partnerships, Clēnera’s Three Peaks Power earned the title of the Best Energy/Industrial Project of 2017 in the Intermountain Area, awarded by Engineering News-Record, along with the Judges’ Special Recognition.

Blymyer’s President, Mike Rantz, continued to say: “From structural and civil engineering to construction, everyone who contributed to the project helped make it a winner.”

“Clēnera is proud to have developed a project that has been recognized as a project leader in the intermountain region,” said Clēnera’s COO, Adam Pishl. “It’s because of our critical partnerships that we are able to be distinguished as such; deliver clean, affordable energy; and help the local community by sourcing 98% of the construction labor locally.”
