Clēnera’s Giffen Solar Park - Part of the Largest Solar Purchase Made by a University in the United States - Is Fully Operational

Boise, Idaho - June 16, 2017 - Clēnera’s 28 MWdc solar installation, Giffen Solar Park, has entered operations. Giffen Solar Park is located on 75 acres of farmland in Fresno, California’s rural town of Cantua Creek. This solar park is capable of bringing reliable, clean energy to more than 7,000 homes in Central California.

Backed by a long-term, 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with the University of California, Giffen Solar Park is part of the largest solar purchase made by a university in the United States. The University of California has plans to use a quarter of the solar power generated to provide power to the University of California’s Davis campus, while the remaining Renewable Energy Certificates will be shared among other University of California campuses and medical centers.

This method of directly supplying renewable energy to its campuses and medical centers is part of the University’s climate neutrality initiative and goal to become 100 percent reliant upon clean electricity supplies by 2025

“Buying 100 percent clean electricity is a core part of our strategy for reducing our carbon footprint. We want to be leaders and encourage other universities, cities, states, and companies to act with more urgency,” Mark Byron, UC’s renewable energy executive director, said in a statement

Along with providing clean energy to the campuses, this solar project also provides research and education opportunities for the University’s students, faculty, and staff according to a news release.

Partnering with Swinerton Renewable Energy to install more than 82,000 solar photovoltaic modules allowed this solar project to begin delivering clean electricity ahead of schedule on June 16, 2017, helping to avoid over 78 million pounds of CO2.
