Clēnera Becomes Solar Pioneer in Wyoming

Boise, Idaho - December 28, 2018 - Sweetwater Solar, located in Southwest Wyoming just outside the city of Green River, has completed construction and entered operations. Developed by Clēnera, Sweetwater Solar is the first utility scale solar farm in Wyoming, making it the largest in the state.

This 80 MWac facility will provide energy to the regional electric grid, and is expected to produce enough electricity to power 18,000 homes. Constructed by Swinerton Renewable Energy on over 700 acres, most of which is public land managed by the BLM, this large-scale solar farm is bringing energy diversity to the top coal mining state with the help of Rocky Mountain Power through a 25-year power purchase agreement.

“Clēnera is proud to be the solar pioneer in a state that is traditionally reliant upon fossil fuels,” said Adam Pishl, Clēnera’s Chief Operating Officer. “This proves that Clēnera is trusted to provide reliable and affordable energy systems.”

Clēnera partnered with Trina and LONGi solar to bring more than 250,000 solar panels to the project; Sungrow for 32 inverters; NEXTracker for single axis trackers; and First Solar for operations and maintenance services. Without these critical partnerships, it would have been impossible to begin bringing affordable clean energy to the state of Wyoming - a state that provides the nation with around 40% of its coal supply

Not only is Sweetwater Solar delivering clean energy; many local benefits have been reaped as well. Throughout the five months of construction, 250 jobs were created, with nine of these being long-term for the duration of the solar farm. Additionally, the purchase of construction materials also enhanced Wyoming’s local economy.

“We need to recognize that it’s time for clean energy,” said Pishl. “It is our hope that Sweetwater Solar will serve as a model for other Wyoming communities intending to pursue energy diversity.”
