Apex Solar is Clēnera’s first facility built in Montana. It stands as a symbol of our long-term commitment to generate American energy and give back to the community. Since the ribbon cutting in October 2023, which was attended by Governor Greg Gianforte, local officials, and our project team, the facility has been producing reliable power for the surrounding area. With a capacity of 105 MWdc, Apex delivers enough power to supply over 18,000 homes in Montana.

At Apex, we are leveraging solar resources and agriculture to work together, a management system called agrivoltaics. Here, we partner with a local rancher to graze sheep and llamas on-site. The animals help manage vegetation naturally, which reduces the need for mechanical mowing and improves soil nutrition. The sheep graze within the fenced area, and llamas act as their protectors. This partnership keeps the land healthy and active while the panels quietly produce local power.
Apex is more than just a solar facility. It is part of the Dillon community. Clēnera supports local organizations like the little league team and employs technicians who live and work nearby. These team members oversee daily operations and help strengthen the connection between the facility and the people it serves. Its success has also contributed to scholarships for environmental science students at the University of Montana Western.
"Apex shows what our commitment to the community looks like in practice,” said Clēnera Director of Portfolio Operations, Cameron Craven. “The facility not only delivers reliable energy to Montanans; but it’s also run by local technicians who live and work right here in the Dillon area. Their hard work keeps the site running smoothly every day. We’ve also hosted students from UMW to see solar technology up close and continue to support the local little league baseball team. I look forward to our continued investment in Dillon.”
Apex Solar shows what is possible when clean energy, community involvement, and responsible land use come together. It reflects Clēnera’s dedication to building facilities that last, support local economies, and respect the land they occupy.
