Project Engineer (Electrical)

The Project Engineer will provide performance analysis and design expertise on utility scale solar and storage projects during the development, design, construction, and asset management phases. Qualified candidates will be electrical engineers experienced in working cross-functionally with a diverse group of internal and external contacts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Position may include additional functions not listed.) *

• Evaluate equipment performance and specifications,  working with equipment suppliers to drive technology evolution

• Create PV and Energy Storage energy production estimates using commercial software programs (e.g., PVsyst), or in-house models

• Coordinate Independent Engineer due diligence including contract management, reviewing IE reports and IE energy assessments and providing feedback as needed

• Research new technologies and energy assessment techniques for both PV and Energy Storage

• Review and provide technical input for key contracts including Interconnection Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, EPC Agreements, etc.

• Coordinate with equipment suppliers as needed for maintenance of technology roadmap

• Create conceptual system design and site layouts for both PV and Energy Storage

• Provide owner engineering review and approval for projects in all stages of design

• Drive technical specifications and evaluate scope of work for engineering detailed design contracts

• Provide detailed oversight and support of contractors and provide technical review of contractor-supplied deliverables

• Support coordination between project teams including engineering, development, land management, finance, pre-construction, and construction project         management

• Provide value engineering and analysis of design alternatives based on impact on financial returns for both PV and Energy Storage

• Conduct special engineering studies upon request

QUALIFICATIONS: (Required knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, etc.)

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering or related field

• 3-5 years of electrical engineering experience

• Experience in electric power industry and PV or Energy Storage preferred

• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including advanced features of Excel

• Programming and data analytics skills (emphasis on Python) are optional, but beneficial

• Strong problem solving and analytical abilities

• Effective verbal and written communication skills

• Self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage competing deadlines or projects with minimal oversight

• Committed team player with the ability to develop and maintain productive work relationships

• Ability and willingness to mentor junior electrical engineers

• Flexibility conducive to a fast-paced, growing company environment

PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: (physical, environmental, travel, etc.)

• Must be located in Boise, Idaho or able to relocate to the area

• Hybrid work style currently available: about 40% in-office/60% work from home

• Occasional travel may be required

• Ability to work in office setting; primarily sedentary; use of normal office machines

• Availability to work additional hours or weekends as projects demand
